Day 4

THE END OF A REIGN

"Mark the perfect man, and behold the upright: for the end of that man is peace." Psalm 37:37

Whoever or whatever Saul saw in the house at Endor on that fateful day it certainly was not Samuel; only an apparition in his guise. Scripture points to the work of evil spirits in this kind of phenomenon and in this instance the cruelty of the father of lies can clearly be seen. The apparition delights in rubbing in the truth which Saul vainly denied (1 Sam. 28:16-19) and drives home the point with the fiendish half-truth "... and tomorrow shalt thou and thy sons be with me..."! When Satan has finished with his servants he destroys them. From Saul there was no hint of regret or repentance only fear and despair. The next day Saul died in battle by his own hand (1 Sam. 31:4) he "died for his transgression" (1 Chron. 10:13,14). What a sad end for Israel's first king.

The sort of occult practise in which Saul took part is so dangerous that even people's stories of their experiences can fascinate and give the Devil an opportunity to lead people astray.

How can such influences be countered? Look up the following texts which indicate the path to certain freedom. 1 Sam. 15:22; Romans 6:16; Acts 16:30,31; Romans 8:26-39; Ephesians 6:10-18

"Cast me not away from thy presence; and take not thy holy spirit from me." Psalm 51:11
