Day 1

EXPERIENCE IS A GOOD TEACHER!

"And I said, Oh that I had wings like a dove! for then would I fly away, and be at rest." Psalm 55:6

David had escaped from Saul with his wife's help and he went straight to Samuel (1 Sam. 19:18). But Saul found out where he was and three times sent men to capture him finally he went himself. Instead of capturing David Saul and all his men became 'captives' of the Lord and prophesied. God confounded them.

When David asked Jonathan why his Saul was trying to kill him, Jonathan could not believe it (1 Sam. 20:2). He and David devised a plan to discover Saul's intentions and warn David (1 Sam. 20:5-34). David was right. Saul told his son "... send and bring him to me for he must die!" (1 Sam. 20:31) The two young man knew they must part and sealed their friendship with declarations of loyalty (v41,42).

What must David have felt like? He turned his back on Saul's court not from disloyalty but from necessity, leaving behind his beloved friend, his wife and his family. He was an outlaw, a fugitive. Why had God allowed this to happen? Was he still guiding David? Had he forgotten the promise of kingship? David's mind must have been in turmoil but God had not left his chosen servant. David was beginning his real training for his future reign.
