Day 1

ONE NEVER KNOWS...

"He chose David also his servant, and took him from the sheepfolds: from following the ewes great with young he brought him to feed Jacob his people, and Israel his inheritance. So he fed them according to the integrity of his heart; and guided them by the skilfulness of his hands." Psalm 78:70,71

Some years ago we were told the story of a young lad from a small french village who had an outstanding talent for soccer. He practised regularly and became quite celebrated as the goalkeeper in the local football team. Then one day a newcomer arrived and, proving an even more skilful player, replaced the local lad who was very upset. He felt unwanted and useless but his coach persuaded him to keep training and practising his skills.

Ultimately he was glad that he had listened to his coach, but not because of soccer. One day he was involved in a real life drama. As he walked to school he saw a house on fire and heard frantic screaming. A small child was trapped upstairs, sitting on a window ledge absolutely terrified. The young man past the gathering crowd and standing beneath the window he shouted a command to the little boy, "Jump". Something in his manner made the boy respond immediately and with unerring deftness the former 'goalie' caught the child in his arms. One never knows how God can use the skills an individual possesses!
