Day 1

WHO WOULD HAVE THOUGHT IT

"I will give them one heart, and I will put a new spirit within you ... they shall be my people and I will be their God." Ezekiel 11:19,20

About ten years ago a teacher got to know a shy, retiring little six year old girl. The girl didn't say very much yet the friendship grew and the teacher sensed something special about her.

One day the girl told her mother that she would like her friend to teach her to play the guitar. Mother passed on the message and simple lessons began. Soon she had to change to a specialist teacher and she also started to play the piano. Not long afterwards she and her family left England and went to live in the USA. Contact between the friends became infrequent. Then, about a year ago, the teacher had news of them. The little girl, grown up now, plays more than six instruments and travels extensively with a Christian choir. The teachers heart was full as she gave thanks for being able to help her friend take the first step to such success!

Who would have thought Saul to be so special as to be chosen king? If only Saul had fulfilled his early promise he would be remembered among the greatest of Israel's kings. Why did God choose him? There are some clues in chapters nine to eleven. Read them and note especially 9:2,5,21 10:11-16, 20-23, 26,27 and 11:12,13.
