Day 5 |
FAITH FINDS ITS REWARD |
"Though he slay me yet will I trust in him: but I will maintain mine own ways before him." (Job 13:15) |
It would be nice to give a happy ending to Richard's story but as far as I know he's never had another such opportunity although he has continued to do well. Perhaps he was not asking for the right thing. Perhaps God knew that the position he desired would not make him happy. Perhaps he has been a more powerful influence for good as a result of his disappointment. I believe that one of the reasons why Jesus emphasised the importance of a relationship with God, rather than a code of good living or the rewards of service, is that when we face disappointment neither moral principles nor future expectations are as helpful as a friend to lean on. I can tell you that Richard slowly got over his shock and his faith remained firm because he trusted that God was still in control of his life. |

Can someone experience the "joy of the Lord" amidst
bitterness, disillusionment and anger?
Consider Paul's words in Philippians 4:10-13. Do you think that you could ever say that? |
Heavenly Father, give me that experience of contented trust which helped Paul so much. |
