Nevil, seven years old, was on holiday in a caravan at the seaside. He should have been happy but he was not. His mother had refused to buy him a puzzle game he wanted. The more he thought about it, the more he wanted it. One quiet afternoon he went to the shop and while the assistant dealt with someone else he took the puzzle and hid it in his pocket. With a pounding heart he made his way back to the caravan. He had got what he wanted. Fiona was taking her final exams at a church college. She was a star student having gained top marks throughout her course. Everything went well, only one more paper to go. But this was her weakest subject and fear gripped her. Her family were proud of her, her tutors believed in her and she had a job waiting if she passed. What if she failed? No, she must pass and with top marks. No one would know if she were to slip just a few answers on the tiniest piece of paper up her sleeve just in case... ! So into the exam she went with her concealed aids. She didn't use them after all! Richard and Edward had been friends since childhood. Now they were married and both were fathers. They were in the same line of work and it happened that both applied for the same job. They were equally well qualified. Richard however had done one or two not very honest things as a teenager and Edward had helped him through the experience. Now Edward saw the advantage of disclosing this information and dropped a few hints to an acquaintance in the firm offering the job. Edward got the position! |
